Gel-X and acrylic can both give you length and shape, but they feel different and are looked after differently. Here is a plain-English comparison so you can book the set that suits your hands and your week.
The short answer
Choose Gel-X if you want a light, natural-feeling set that soaks off. Choose acrylic if you want the strongest option for longer lengths, bold shapes or hard use.

Choose Gel-X if…
- You like a light, flexible feel.
- You want to switch shapes and lengths easily.
- You have a wedding, holiday or event coming up and want a slim, natural look.
- You prefer to start fresh at each appointment.
Choose acrylic if…
- You want long almond, coffin or stiletto shapes.
- You type, lift or work with your hands a lot.
- You want 3D details or heavy art that needs a strong base.
- You do not mind coming back for fills every 2–3 weeks.
What about damage?
Neither should damage your natural nails when they are applied and removed properly. Most damage comes from picking, prying or peeling a set off at home, or from heavy filing. If your nails are thin or peeling, ask about BIAB as a gentler step.
