How Gel-X works
Gel-X tips are pre-shaped, full-cover tips made from soft gel. We choose the size that fits your nail from sidewall to sidewall, bond it to your nail with gel, and cure it under an LED lamp. Then we shape and finish it just like a normal set.
There is no acrylic powder or liquid, so you will not get the strong acrylic smell, and there is less filing. The result is slim and natural-looking.
Why clients choose Gel-X
- Easy to change. Go short almond one month and medium coffin for a wedding or trip the next.
- Light feel. It is flexible and comfortable to type and text in.
- Soaks off. A proper soak-off removal lets you start fresh each time.
- Great for art. Chrome, French tips and custom designs all work well.
Choosing a length and shape
Pick the shape you love and the length you can comfortably live with. Short and medium lengths feel closest to your own nails. Longer lengths look dramatic and suit events, and they take a little getting used to.
- Short almond or square. Easy for work, typing and everyday life.
- Medium almond or coffin. A good balance of length and comfort.
- Long shapes. Best for events and photos. For long shapes you will wear every day, ask whether acrylic would hold up better.
If your nails are very short, thin or damaged, tell us. We may suggest BIAB first so your natural nails can recover.
How long it lasts
A set lasts about 3–4 weeks with daily cuticle oil and good home care. At that point you can have it infilled once with BIAB, or soaked off so we can apply a fresh set.
Our gel aftercare guide has ten habits that help it last.
Home care and removal
- Apply cuticle oil every day.
- Wear gloves for cleaning, dishes and anything with hot water.
- Use your fingertips, not your nails, to open cans and scrape labels.
- Please do not peel or pull Gel-X off. It can take layers of your natural nail with it.
When it is time for a change, book a soak-off removal. We take the set off gently and check your natural nails before starting fresh.

Gel-X for weddings, trips and events
Gel-X goes on in about 105 minutes and soaks off afterwards, so it is a popular choice when you want length for a special occasion. For a wedding, book a trial first and your final set a few days before the date. Our bridal nail timeline shows how to plan it. Heading away? Book a set a day or two before your trip so it looks fresh when you arrive.
Your visit
Plan on about 105 minutes (1 hour 45 minutes). You will get a quick consultation first, so bring a photo or two of the shape and colour you want. Enjoy a complimentary coffee or chilled Bubly from our Café & Bar while we work.
